Caring for Special Needs Families in Your Church (Korene Lanxon, Special Needs Coordinator, Grace Community Church)
Did you know one of the most unreached people groups in Eastern Iowa is special needs families? Learn how to help your church leaders know how to begin caring for and incorporating special needs families into your church.
Parents of Prodigals (Dave Kirk, Pastor of Spiritual Formation, Grace Community Church and Co-Founder and Director of the EIBCC)
This seminar is designed to help leaders care for prodigals and parents of prodigals as they walk through traumatic times in their families. Utilizing biblical counsel and community is essential during this time in the lives of parents of prodigals to help them survive and thrive. This seminar will give you lots of practical “how-tos” to effectively care for families of prodigals.
Post-Traumatic Stress to Post-Traumatic Sanctification (Robin Werling, Men’s Program Mentor, Mighty Oaks Foundation)
Trauma experienced in life can stunt or halt the spiritual growth of anyone who does not identify it and properly put it in its place. In this session, we will explore what truth the Bible can shed on the topic of helping those who have experienced trauma.
Critical Mission: Parents, Children, Birds, and Bees (Sydney Millage, Author of Sanctuary: Hope and Help for Victims of Domestic Abuse, EIBCC Core Team Member)
Explore what God’s Word teaches about human sexuality as it relates to identity, education, and practice. This workshop will focus on the church’s role in equipping parents to address biblical sexuality in an age-appropriate, God-honoring way.
Saturday PM Breakout Sessions
Reactive Attachment Disorder and Biblical Counseling (Jason Taylor, Biblical Counseling Pastor, Coram Deo Bible Church, EIBCC Core Team Member)
Understand Reactive Attachment Disorder from both secular and biblical points of view. Learn how to help parents love, discipline, and instruct difficult children.
Helping Children by Counseling Their Parents (Jim Sabin, Grace Community Church Elder, EIBCC Core Team Member)
Parents are neither automatically nor necessarily responsible for poor behaviors or attitudes in their children – BUT – the parents may be contributors or enablers. This presentation is intended to help counselors identify situations in which counseling the parents may ultimately provide more help and encouragement to struggling children than counseling the children directly.
Tech-Ology (Aimee Marino, Director of Biblical Counseling at Grace Community Church, EIBCC Core Team Member)
Explore the cross-section of technology, theology, and the modern teenager, and how we can pass down a wise and balanced biblical view of tech to a generation defined by it.
Resources to Help Parents Instruct Their Children (David Michael, Keynote Speaker, Founder of Truth78 Ministries, Co-Author of Children Desiring God Curriculum)
Sharing resources that will equip parents on being the main disciple-makers in their homes.
